Yulara, Northern Territory : Main Article
The government decided to assist in the development of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta area by building a completely new resort area outside of the National Park and about 20 kilometres away from the rock.
Ayers Rock had become a big tourist attraction and they wanted to ensure that development was carefully controlled and not let get out of hand. The concept for the new village was designed by the Sydney architect Philip Cox and the whole project was completed in 1983.
Natural Attractions
The reason for Yulara existing is the big attraction in the vicinity, the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, with both the Olgas and Ayers Rock just waiting to be visited.
There is a slide show which takes place at the theatrette and will provide you with lots of interesting information about Uluru, the wildlife in the vicinity and something of the local Aborigines. There is also a chance for you to put any questions you may have to an expert once the slideshow has finished. It takes place every day at 2 pm.
At the Visitors Centre you can experience a real treat in the form of the twinkling stars above. Central Australia has very clear skies and is the ideal place to observe them. The Night Time Sky Show will take you through the wonders of the sky, informing you along the way of the Greek and Aboriginal legends relating to the constellations. You'll get to observe the moon and other planets through the telescopes.
Other Attractions
At the Amphitheatre you can enjoy some traditional, magical didgeridoo music under the stars and live music which is uniquely of the Northern Territory.
