Wagin, Western Australia : Main Article
Wagin is located in the heartland of a successful Merino sheep breeding area in Western Australia, and lies near the towns of Arthur River and Narrogin. The largest rural State show is hosted by Wagin annually, attracting people from a wide area.
Historic Attractions
Stroll down the streets of Wagin as you would have found them 100 years ago. The historical village has an authentic school room, a bank, a newspaper office, a stone kiosk, a blacksmith, a general store and some settler's cottages constructed with wattle and daub and mud brick. Other attractions include a barbers shop, dressmakers, stables, milking shed and a dairy. Also on view are old farming implements and tools most of which are still operable. A Wool Museum is located in the village and is open daily from 10am to 4pm.
Natural Attractions
Mount Latham has a myriad of bushtrails to explore all with their own flora and fauna guiding the way. Lake Norring is a very popular boating, sailing and windsurfing venue with over 700 hectares of water to amuse all enthusiasts. Picnic facilities are located here also. Another lovely picnic spot can be found at Puntapin Rock, about 6 kilometres south east of Wagin.
Other Attractions
Wagin has constructed a Giant Ram, the largest in the southern hemisphere in recognition of the importance of the Merino Stud industry in the area. Beside the Giant Ram is a walking trail that ramble past ponds and waterfalls. The Wagin Woolarama occurs each year during March and attracts a huge crowd from all over the State.
