Truganini@person : Main Article
Truganini was a Tasmanian Aborigine, thought to have been born in 1816 near D'Entrecasteaux Channel in Tasmania.
Following the brutal treatment of her people she married Woorraddy at Bruny Island in 1829, and aided George Augustus Robinson to gather the remnants of her people and situate them at a settlement on Flinders Island. She later joined Robinson at the settlement in 1835, before moving to Oyster Cove in 1847 to resume her traditional way of life.
She moved to Hobart in 1874, and two years later she died. Against her wishes her body was exhumed, and her skeleton displayed in the Tasmanian Museum from 1904-1947, following research by the Royal Society of Tasmania in 1878. 100 years later her skeletal remains were cremated and her ashes scattered on the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. She was believed to be the last full blooded Aborigine living in Tasmania, until her death in 1876.
