from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Top Springs is where the Buchanan Highway and Delamere Road meet. It is 290 kilometres south west of Katherine. Following the road to the east of Top Springs for 182 kilometres will connect you to the Stuart Highway just north of Dunmarra.

It is a very small town, catering mainly for the local stations and the passing truckies and tourists. There are a number of large properties in the area - Victoria Downs is the largest, at around 12,500 square kilometres.

The present site of the town is not the original site. The town was first developed at the turn of the century on land about 15 kilometres away, where now the Yarrlin aboriginal people have a settlement. The original hotel burnt down in 1954, and the new site was developed at that time.

Top Springs has good tourist facilities, including 'The Wanda Inn', which boasts accommodation, a bar, a dining room, a general store, a swimming pool for guests and a shaded barbecue area. The springs themselves are not far from the town, and they are open to the public for swimming. Top Springs also provides fuel and minor mechanical repairs 24 hours a day.
