Toodyay is located 85 kilometres north east of Perth in the picturesque Avon Valley and lies near the town of Northam.

Historic Attractions

Connors Mill was built in 1870 and was the town's third steam driven flour mill. Today visitors can inspect the model steam generator as it drives the flour mill workings and leads the visitor through all the stages in the production of flour from the wheat head to the final flour product and it's by products. The top floor houses the restored living quarters of the Piesse Family, who had operated the Mill as a Power House. The tourist information centre is also located in the complex.

Old Newcastle Gaol Musuem allows visitors to step back in time to the days of convicts as they participate in a mock courtroom trial and view the numerous convict and colonial artefacts or learn about the arduous lives of such luminaries as Moondyne Joe.

Newcastle park has a monument to Charlotte Davies, the first white female to arrive in the Swan River Colony. Drummond's Memorial can be visited at the nearby Pelham Reserve.

Natural Attractions

Avon Valley National Park contains woodlands, river valleys and numerous beautiful wildflowers for visitors to enjoy. During June the Avon River becomes an ideal canoeing river. Picnics and bushwalking are some of the activities to be enjoyed in the Park.

Panoramic views of Toodyay and surrounds are available from the Reservoir Lookout adjacent to the Pelham Nature Reserve.

Duidgee Park has pleasant walks along the Harper River as well as a children's adventure playground and picnic facilities. Newcastle Park also has a playground to keep the kids amused.

Other Attractions

Coorinja Winery offers visitors tastings and sales from their historic premises which date from the 1870s, 5 kilometres from Toodyay. The winery specialises in port and fortified wines with a smaller selection of table wines. Open from 8am to 5pm every day except Sunday.

Hoddywell Archery Park is a must see for all aspiring Robin Hoods. View the history of Archery in the Museum and then embark on trail archery through scenic bushland. Picnic facilities and a caravan park complete the facilities here.

Learn more about the farming of emus with a visit to the Free Range Emu Farm 10 kilometres from Toodyay. Observe the emus in a natural environment and see the latest incubation techniques and newborn chicks emerge into the world.
