The Big Tree Lookout, Tasmania : Main Article
View Source Page History Page Locked
from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

On the Arve Loop Road is The Big Tree Lookout - a 20 metre high platform allowing splendid views of the massive swamp gum known affectionately as The Big Tree. Swamp Gums are the largest flowering plants in the world.

The fact that The Big Tree is still here for us to appreciate is quite a marvel - the well sign-posted area gives details of how this magnificent monument has survived logging, bushfires, and other perils that have befallen it, when other trees in the same area have been less fortunate. This lookout can only be reached on the return trip to Geeveston, as the Arve Loop Road is one-way, due to its narrowness. It is another reason why the Loop Road detour is worth the 10 minutes it takes.
