This town is located on the western edge of the Asbestos Range National Park, and is home to the Cheyne Purdue Art School. The town is only about a 15 minute drive from Devonport, and it lies close to the beautiful north coast beaches of Hawley Beach and Port Sorell.

Shearwater is a fast developing area, and many residents commute into the towns of Devonport and Latrobe for work. The area is dotted with farms amongst the newer housing developments, and rather than threatening the landscape, it creates a peaceful atmosphere of town meeting country.
