from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Santa Teresa is an Aboriginal community located in the Simpson Desert, about 85 kilometres south east of Alice Springs. Prior to the aboriginal settlement being established, the land was used for a Catholic Mission, which moved here in the mid 1950s from its original site just north of Alice Springs.

Santa Teresa community can be visited by prior arrangement; phone (089) 560 999 for details. There are no tourist facilities provided here, and there is no permit required for transit visitors.

The land around Santa Teresa is typical of the desert - full of life and vibrant. Within the sea of distinctive red that is so much a part of the identity of Central Australia, there are bloodwood trees, spinifex grass and a variety of flowers bloom after good rain. Wildlife also abounds, and there are dingos, wild camels and emus to be seen.
