Today, one of South Australia's greatest attractions is the Barossa Valley, and it was here in 1847 that the Silesian Johann Gramp founded Australia's wine industry at Jacob's Creek. The secret of the Barossa is its variety of soil types, allowing for the cultivation of different varieties of grapes. Today over 35 wineries draw scores of visitors to the area.

With the grandeur of Adelaide and its nineteenth century ambience, beautiful coastal towns, vineyard areas, vast outback notable for its expansive silence and red dust, and other natural beauties like the Flinders Ranges, South Australia certainly is a State with contrasting landscapes, each with its own unique features.

It is therefore not surprising that tourism is a major contributor to the State's ongoing prosperity, with many people arriving into the State every year, to discover for themselves the variety of attractions which South Australia has to offer.
