The Ross River Homestead is located at the end of the Ross Highway, 80 kilometres east out of Alice Springs. This is an historic homestead dating back to 1898. The cattle industry has been a major part in the economy of Central Australia, accounting for much of its development. The earliest stations came into being following the construction of the telegraph line. It was not until the completion of the railway to Alice Springs in 1929 that these stations were greatly assisted in the transportation of machinery and other heavy equipment.

The Bloomfield family had a property at Love's Creek of about 400,000 hectares. Their first home was built at Ross River. They bred horses which had to be walked 500 kilometres to Oodnadatta in South Australia. Eventually they were shipped to India for use by the Indian army. The Green brothers subsequently took over the running of the property.

There is lots to keep visitors preoccupied, like camel riding and bushwalking to mention just two. It is also possible to enjoy morning tea while here, a pleasant refreshment.
