The Ross River Homestead is located at the end of the Ross Highway, 80 kilometres east out of Alice Springs. This is an historic homestead dating back to 1898. The cattle industry has been a major part in the economy of Central Australia, accounting for much of its development. The earliest stations came into being following the construction of the telegraph line. It was not until the completion of the railway to Alice Springs in 1929 that these stations were greatly assisted in the transportation of machinery and other heavy equipment. Rate Page
