Roebourne is located on the north west of the State, near the towns of Cossack, Dampier and Karratha. Roebourne is the oldest settlement between Port Gregory and Palmerston in Darwin.

The area was first visited by pioneers who had landed at nearby Cossack and were searching for a source of freshwater. Their camp by the Harding River became the site for the present day Roebourne.

Historic Attractions

Roebourne's streets are lined with many notable buildings, most dating back to the last century. Highlights for the visitor include the Post Office, Courthouse, Gaol and Police Station built in 1887, the Holy Trinity Church constructed in 1894 and the Union bank and Victoria Hotel established in 1888. The old gaol is now the tourist information centre for Roebourne and the surrounding region.

The Emma Withnell Heritage Trail is a 52 kilometre journey through the history and early development of Roebourne and the region and includes stops in Cossack, Wickham and Point Samson.

Natural Attractions

Mt Welcome dominates the skyline to the east and views from the summit are no less than breathtaking. The Harding Dam, located on the meandering Harding River is worth a visit while in the area.
