from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Rabbit Flat is situated in the Tanami Desert, about 80 kilometres from the Western Australian border.

The 'town' really only consists of a roadhouse, which was constructed in 1969. It was established (and is still run) by the Ferrands. Facilities include a general store (basic supplies only), a bar and a takeaway food area. This is also the last fuel available before Halls Creek, which is over 400 kilometres away in Western Australia.

Please note - the roadhouse is open on Friday through to Monday only. From Tuesday to Thursday it is closed. Rabbit Flat is in some of the most remote land in Australia, and experiences incredible waves of heat in the summer months. So, for a number of reasons it is advisable to plan ahead when visiting this area.
