from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Port Huon is located in the south of Tasmania, 67 kilometres from Hobart city, and it was the main apple port in the State. The Huon Timber Company also had a strong link to the area. Today this mainly residential area has the remnants of the Wharf and cool stores to remind visitors of those prosperous days, and although the Huon Timber Company has departed, the timber industry remains one of the mainstays of the economy in Port Huon.

The main attractions in Port Huon are the opportunities for watersports such as boating and sailing on the Huon River. Cruises along this picturesque river may be taken from the Port Huon Holiday Resort who run Huon River Cruises, encompassing beautiful water and mountain scenes which highlight the beauty of this area.
