Pingelly, Western Australia : Main Article
Pingelly is situated between the towns of Brookton and Popanyinning in south west Western Australia. The name of the town is derived from an Aboriginal word for the area, "Pingeculling".
Historic Attractions
The Courthouse Museum was built in 1907 and served as a legal institution until 1977 when it became a Museum housing a variety of items relating to the local history of the area. Open by appointment, contact 098 - 87 1320.
The Mourambine Heritage Trail commences 8 kilometres east of Pingelly at what was the original township site. Highlights include St Patrick's Church constructed in 1871 and now housing a local history display.
Natural Attractions
The nearby Dryandra State Forest is an important conservation area with a wide range of animal and plant species thriving within the boundaries of this 27,000 hectare area.
Boyagin Rock Nature Reserve is located to the north west of Pingelly and affords great view of the area from it's summit. The reserve is an important remnant of natural bush and is ideal for nature study, bushwalking, photography and picnicking.
