Parattah is located 90 kilometres from Hobart and lies 6 kilometres to the east of Oatlands. This town is one of the highest points on the rail line that links Hobart to Launceston, being 445 metres above sea level.

Attractions include the homestead "Fernhurst", constructed in the late 1880s by Dr Willes, and the "Austral Park " farmhouse which was the home of one of the founder members of QANTAS, Sir Hudson Fysh.
