Butterfly Gorge Nature Park is 104 hectares in size.

The attractive Butterfly Gorge is 147 km from Katherine or 214 km from Darwin. Entry to the park is along a 17 km track leading from the end of the Douglas Hot Springs road. The track is recommended for 4WD vehicles only and is generally closed during the wet season.

The Douglas River cutting deep into the sandstone escarpment has formed the 300 metre long Gorge. The tall, sheer cliffs of the Gorge, bound a series of large, deep rockpools and small waterfalls. The Gorge is named after the large numbers of butterflies which can be found sheltering in the cool, shady rock crevices. Rock wallabies can also be seen scampering across cliff faces.
