Museum-Justice Police-Start, New South Wales : Main Article
This was originally the Water Police Court (1856), Water Police Station (1858) and Police Court(1885). By the 1890s there was a Charge Court and Summons Court, and a police station on the site. Come the twentieth century, the court functions extended to Licensing, Fair Rents and Small Debts. In more recent times the buildings acted as Traffic Courts, up until 1980. The Police Station was in operation until 1985.
These historic buildings were restored in 1986-7 and since 1988 they have been used as a museum of police and legal history. The Museum incorporates a Magistrate's Court, a recreated charge room and remand cell, a 'black' museum of crime, an exciting slide show and changing exhibitions in the Police Station cells.
