from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Milingimbi is located on the northern coast in Arnhem Land, east of Maningrida. It is to be found on an island off the north coast which belongs to the Walamangu Aboriginal people.

The area is mostly mudflats and mangrove swamps. Having chosen Goulburn Island as his first mission, Reverend Watson chose here to be the site of his second mission. In 1921 Reverend J.C. Jennison set up a mission on Elcho Island, where he did not stay for very long. Watson persisted with his plans for Milingimbi, overseeing the construction of houses and a small church. Once these had been completed the Reverend T.T. Webb took over the running of the mission.
