from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Menindee sits amongst the Overflow lakes that make up the Menindee Water Storage Scheme. The town has been referred to as an oasis of the outback, due to the semi desert areas which surround much of the district and dominate the landscape of its neighbour, the town of Broken Hill.

The Overflow Lakes of the Water Storage Scheme are habitats for a huge diversity of aquatic waterbirds and associated aquatic life. Waterskiing, canoeing and swimming are all refreshing activities visitors may indulge in on those particularly hot days. Fishing for cod and perch in the lakes and on the Darling River is a popular activity, with evening sunsets casting a myriad of spectacular fiery oranges, scarlet reds and regal purples over the silvery lakes - a real treat for those with patience.

Other Attractions

The nearby Kinchega Woolshed is worth a visit to inspect the various processes involved in shearing a sheep. Visit the Main Weir which allows access to the Burke and Willis campsite.
