Melton Mowbray, Tasmania : Main Article

from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Melton Mowbray is located in the south east of Tasmania, between the towns of Apsley and Kempton, and at the junction of the Lake and Midlands highways. Samuel Blackwell built the Melton Mowbray Hotel in 1849, and to this day the hotel has one of the few original horse troughs in Australia.

Melton Mowbray was named after the town of the same name in England, as the countryside was found to be very similar. Similar pursuits also existed in the Tasmanian town, as fox hunting became a popular pastime in the late 1800s.
