Located 90 minutes from Melbourne, Marysville is one of the city's most spectacular region's, an area looked upon as an oasis for jaded city dwellers with a gentle charm all of its own..

Marysville was an eco-tourist destination long before the term became a 90s marketing sensation, the township offers clean crisp mountain air, magnificent scenery filled with forest areas and waterfalls and many other superb natural attractions. Beyond the glorious Black Spur with its beautiful tree ferns and gracious tall timbers, there are dozens of walks around the town catering for every level of fitness and interest.

Every season in Marysville offers something different. Spring is Maryville's most vibrant season ablaze with spring colour from the rhododendrons, azaleas and many more wonderful flowers that flourish in the mountain climate while summer is the season to take advantage of everything the great outdoors has to offer with the bright sun and temperate climate ideal for outdoor adventures. Autumn is the season to enjoy the colour and beauty of the area while winter is a special time in Maryville with snow on nearby Lake Mountain and 29km of alpine ski trails to explore.

Natural Attractions

Maryville's natural attractions are its main assets and what continues to draw generations of travellers both local and long distance. One of Maryville's most treasured experiences is a walk along Lady Talbot Forest Drive which journeys through the stately mountain forests of messmate, peppermint gum and mountain ash and follows the Taggerty River. This is one of the most magnificent scenes in Marysville and is a photographers delight.

Other attractions include walks through the mysterious and picturesque rainforest beside the cascading Taggerty River and Whitehouse Creek. Here visitors will be greeted by the magnificent sights of cool temperate rainforests with majestic Myrtle Beech, Blackwood and soft tree-ferns.

Also in the area are the glorious Steavenson Falls, one of the tallest in Victoria. The walking track around the Falls provides wonderful views of the waterfalls cascading down the rockface in three giant leaps, but the most spectacular sight is to be had at night when the falls are floodlit accentuating the falls dramatic beauty.

The water itself is used to generate power for both he floodlighting and the lighting of the walking trail and at night there are the added rewards of a chance meeting with some of Australia's most curios and wonderful native wildlife. Possums in particular are known for their nightly antics, while there are many other delightful creatures to observe in the forest by night
