from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Maranboy is located off the Stuart Highway along the Central Arnhem Road. Tin deposits were found at Maranboy Creek in 1914. It was decided that mining would be an economically viable option and so extraction began.

It was quite profitable in the first number of years and a battery was constructed. This was operated by a boiler and steam engine which meant that it could really only be used for four months in the year during the wet season. The Australian Inland Mission had an impact here, establishing a hospital following an outbreak of malaria in the area.
