from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Leinster is a small town located between Leonora and Wiluna which derived its name from a nearby pastoral station called "Leinster Downs". The town was first settled in 1977 acting as a service town to the nearby nickel mines and three gold mines within a 35km radius.

With the reopening of the Agnew Nickel Mine in 1987 Leinster has experienced an upturn in it's fortunes.

Historic Attractions

Agnew and Lawlers, two former mining towns are located west and south east of Leinster respectively and are worth visiting when in the area. Agnew was established in 1936 and visitors can feel the old time mining atmosphere as they stroll through the deserted streets. Lawlers is remembered by a solitary remaining building - the old brick jail.
