Lake Grace, Western Australia : Main Article
Lake Grace is located between the towns of Kukerin and Newdegate in south east WA. The first European explorer in the area was thought to be JS Roe who travelled through here in 1848, naming Mt Madden en route. Lake Grace was named in 1909 after the nearby salt, shallow lake.
Historic Attractions
The Inland Mission Hospital was constructed in 1925 by John Flynn and is the only AIM Hospital left in Western Australia. The building has been restored and now houses a hospital museum for visitor inspection.
The Roe Heritage Trail follows part of the route taken by explorer JS Roe in 1848 and commences at Lake King stopping at sites of historic, scenic and natural beauty along it's course.
Natural Attractions
Lions Park and Apex rest-a-while Park offer tranquil venues for shady strolls and leisurely picnics. Lake King is well known as being a stage control point for the very first Sydney to London car rally. The Lake is also the stepping off point for the track through Frank Hann National Park and Peak Charles National Park.
Holland's Track was cut by John Holland and four helpers who were determined to arrive at the Goldfields in the shortest possible time. The track ran between Broomehill and Coolgardie and was subsequently used by many prospectors and travellers whose wagon wheel ruts still can be seen on the road from Lake Grace to Newdegate.
