Natural Attractions

Mirima National Park is composed of a series of sandstone hills and valleys which are at least 300 million years old and contains many examples of Aboriginal Rock Art.

Many other natural attractions abound in the area; highlights include Kelly's Knob which affords a wide panorama of Kununurra and the Ord Valley, Sleeping Buddha, a razorback ridge which runs by the Ord River and resembles a person sleeping; and Elephant Rock, a formation to be viewed end on from the river resembling an elephant's head with trunk and ears.

Lake Kunumurra offers scenic cruises to visitors wishing to view the abundant aquatic wildlife and flora that abound in the area. Lake Argyle was made when the Ord River was dammed in the Carr Boyd Ranges, and contains 9 times the volume of water of Sydney Harbour. Once mountains, the islands in the lake are home to a vast array of reptile, marsupial and bird species. Many Aboriginal Rock paintings adorn the roadside drive to the Lake.

Middle Springs is accessible by 4WDs only and visitors can admire the wet season pool and waterfall, via Parry Creek Road. Black Rock Falls is another wet season attraction where water cascades over a 30 metre semi circular rock formation into a small cliff pool below.

Ivanhoe Crossing forms a permanent waterfall and was once part of the original road to Wyndham. Good fishing can be had here but beware of saltwater crocodiles!
Bandicoot Beach on the Ord River is another popular fishing spot, however swimming is not recommended below the diversion dam due to the presence of crocodiles.

Pandanas Palm Wildlife Park and Zebra Rock Garden is located off Packsaddle Plains Road and in a beautiful garden setting with many bird species is a display of the unique Zebra Rock which can be purchased by interested visitors.
