from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Kulgera is located along the Stuart Highway, some 274 kilometres south of Alice Springs. It is very close to the border with South Australia. There is accommodation available at the Hotel/Motel and caravan park, as well as take away food and all other services you may require on your travels.

Nearby is the Kulgera pub, which now boasts being the most central pub in Australia, as it is closest to the geographical centre of the country. The Kulgera Homestead dates back to the 1930s, and is being restored as a museum by the Conservation and Heritage Commissions.

Situated on 10 acres you will find the Kulgera Pioneer Museum and Animal Park. Here you will get to see informative displays of the early days of the Territory, Alice Springs and the Overland Telegraph Line. There is flora and fauna for you to observe with donkeys, ducks, kangaroos, emus and lots more besides. It is closed from mid January until the end of February.

Also in the area are rock paintings by the Pitjantjatjara aboriginal people, evidence of their presence in the past.
