Hyden is located in the south west of Western Australia and lies near the town of Karlgarin in the centre of what is fertile agricultural land . Wheat farming has been prevalent here since 1927.

Natural Attractions

The most amazing natural rock formation visitors are ever likely to see can be found a few kilometres from the town of Hyden. Wave Rock, which is not a separate rock but an overhanging wall over 100 metres in length, part of the granite Hyden Rock formation. Originally thought to be a vertical wall, 2,700 million years of erosion and chemical weathering has caused the "wall" to metamorphose into the "wave". The wave stands 15 metres high and is streaked with a variety of colours caused by the action of carbonates and iron hydroxides which are deposited to form streaks of red, grey and ochre.

Another unusual formation is the Hippos Yawn located quite close to Wave Rock, a giant gaping mouth hewn from rock, the product of millions of years of erosion.

Humps Dam was constructed in 1981 to serve the ever growing population of Hyden. Scenic water views and walks around the Dam can be enjoyed by visitors.

Other Attractions

Lace Place is located at the Wildflower Shop facing Wave Rock and houses the largest collection of lace items in the southern hemisphere. Highlights of the display include some Royal Lace worn by Queen Victoria and tulle pieces from the wedding veil of the Princess of Wales in addition to some beautiful examples of Irish, Brussels and Honiton lace items.

Adjacent to the Lace Place is a wildlife reserve where visitors can observe many native animals in natural bushland habitats. Animals such as kangaroos, emus, fallow deer, wombats and koalas can all be viewed by visitors.

Mulka's Cave is situated 21 kilometres from Hyden and contains excellent examples of Aboriginal Rock Art and Cave Paintings.
