Hawley Beach, Tasmania : Main Article
Hawley Beach is just past Shearwater ina developing area on the north coast of the State, overlooking Sorell Point. What was previously considered just a holiday or weekender destination is fast becoming an area of permanent residents, as well as continuing to provide facilities for visitors.
The nearby towns of Port Sorell, Devonport and Frankford are all within easy visiting distance, and the neighbouring Asbestos Range National Park awaits exploration. The main focal point of the town is its beach, both beautiful to look at and ideal for swimming.
Overlooking the beach is Hawley House, built in the late 1870s by Major Arthur Dumbleton, and still in the family's possession. It offers accommodation for visitors, which is highly recommended for either a weekend retreat, or a longer stay to enjoy the peaceful lifestyle. The House is situated on a property which boasts a vineyard, a man made lagoon, and a selection of animals ranging from chickens and sheep to wild rabbits, and even quails.
A tour of the vineyard is a must, followed by a sumptuous meal in the dining room to sample the wines. If you are really lucky, a night time tour of the property in a 4WD can be arranged - but this is strictly for the more adventurous !
