from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Harts Range is a smalltown in the north of the Harts Range itself, with a mainly aboriginal population. Earlier this century the town was alive with miners and fossickers, and it housed up to 100 workers at one point in time. The remains of the stone houses can still be seen around the town today.

Harts Range has a population of just over 100 people, and thus boasts the essential facilities of a Race Track, Police Station, school, and a supermarket. Fossicking is still encouraged here, and there are a variety of minerals to be found, from moonstone and garnet to blue quartz.

The town is located 210 kilometres east of Alice Springs on the Plenty Highway.
