Gordon River Road
The road begins just west of Maydena and is about 85 kilometres in length. There is a fee for entering the Southwest National Park. Visitors to the Gordon Road can hire an audio tape which provides information about the main features of the road. The tapes are available from the toll gate at Maydena or the Southwest National Park office at Mount Field.
During winter, the Gordon Road may be closed to traffic. There are several viewing points along the road, and two picnic areas provide the traveller with convenient stopping places. The road to Scotts Peak turns off at Frodshams Pass. Several kilometres from the turn-off, Parks Wildlife and Heritage has constructed a short forest walk which takes about 20 minutes to complete.
Gordon Dam and Power Station Tours
A Visitor Reception Centre is situated at the Gordon Dam, about 13 km west of Strathgordon. The Centre is open to visitors daily (except Christmas Day and Good Friday) between 11.15am and 4pm. Guided tours of the Power Station are available. Tickets must be bought from the Visitor Reception Centre before boarding the bus.
Camping Grounds
There are excellent camping grounds near the Edgar and Scotts Peak Dams. These facilities are maintained by the Department of Parks, Wildlife and Heritage and include toilets, barbecue and picnic areas.
Fishing and Boat Hire
Both Lakes Pedder and Gordon provide excellent trout fishing opportunities. Fishing licences are essential. Fishing boats can be hired from the Lake Pedder Motor Inn.
