Located 23 kilometres from Ulverstone, the area is primarily a farming district. One of the main attractions of the area is Gunns Plains Limestone Caves located in the Gunns Plains Cave State Reserve. The caves were formed by an underwater brook which is actually still in existence today. Tours take place between 10am and 4pm daily and begin on the hour. For further information phone (004) 28 6277. Several picnic and recreational areas may be enjoyed by visitors along the shores of the Leven River.

The Gunns Plains Hop Farms process hops, the essential ingredient for beer, on 190 hectares and have a visitors centre which offers you the chance to partake in a guided tour. You will have the opportunity to learn all about the hops. It is only open during the harvest season from the 6th March until 8th April. There are guided tours Mondays through to Saturdays, on the hour from 10am until 4pm. For further information phone (004) 29 1366.
