Exmouth is located on the North West Cape in Western Australia and is well known for its amazing marine environment. Nearby towns include Learmonth and Coral Bay.

Natural Attractions

Exmouth has a myriad of golden sandy beaches for visitors to choose from. Good fishing, surfing, swimming and beachcombing can be enjoyed at any of the following beaches in the Exmouth area; Town Beach and Pebbly Beach, noted for safe swimming, McLeod Street and Oyster Rocks for fishing, , Surfers Beach, for excellent surfing and other beaches such as Bundegi Beach, Pt Murat Beaches and Tantabiddi all with ideal conditions for swimming and snorkelling.

Yardie Creek Gorge is one of the highlights of the Cape Range National Park and is home to a population of rock wallabies. The sight of the colourful reflections on the gorge walls contrasting with the crystal blue waters flowing through the ravine. Red Kangaroos and can be spotted along the coastal plain.

Vlaming Head is 19 kilometres north of Exmouth and offers spectacular views of the North West Cape. Turquoise Bay is situated 60 kilometres from the town and visitors to this place will immediately realise how apt the name is. White sandy beaches and turquoise blue waters provide the highlight of a visit to Exmouth.

Shothole Canyon Road offers a series of spectacular panoramas of the Cape Range National Park and it's majestic gorge systems which run through the landscape. Access to the gorges is very easy from this road. Charles Knife Canyon Road follows the track made by Charles Knife and Jack King as they created a road to one of the most inaccessible areas in the Cape range area. Colourful gorges lead the way to a spectacular view of the area.

Other Attractions

Ocean Exhibits on Pellew Street Exmouth has an extensive collection of marine life exhibits and locally prominent shell displays for visitor perusal. Craft Street is home to the Exmouth House of Dolls, an engaging display of porcelain and other dolls, both old and new.

South of Exmouth is the MG Kailis Prawn Fishery, open from April to November allowing the public to view the processes involved in harvesting and preparing the prawns for export nationally and internationally.

Also south of Exmouth is the RAAF Base which was operational during WWII and today is a "caretaker" base and often used by the Army and RAAF joint exercises. The Solar Observatory 34 kilometres south of Exmouth may be viewed from the road only.

The Naval Communication Station "Harold E Holt" is 6km north of Exmouth and is used to relay messages to Australian and US Command Centres and the various ships and submarines in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. This area is STRICTLY OFF LIMITS unless you have made an advance tour booking with the Exmouth tourist centre. The VLF Antenna Field is also a PROHIBITED AREA, save those accessing the Pt Murat Beaches and Bundegi Beach.

Historic Attractions

The wreck of the Mildura, a cattle ship from Kimberley which was sunk during a storm in 1907 is remembered with a monument on Wreck Road, 15 kilometres from Exmouth.

Vlaming Head is the site of a former World War Two Radar Station and the Vlaming Head Lighthouse, built in 1912. The Old Lighthouse Keepers Quarters are also situated at the foot of the Head.

Special Events

Apart from the usual snorkelling, scuba diving and boat charters that can be arranged from Exmouth, a number of special events occur annually such as the Festival of Trees in November, Turtle nesting from November to January and Humpback Whale watching from July to November. For fishermen the Whale Shark season is from March to May, with several fishing competitions occurring during the year and sports lovers can catch the annual triathlon in May as well as horse racing during the winter months.
