from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Emerald Springs is situated on the Stuart Highway, about 20 kilometres north of Pine Creek.

The area was named for the springs near the town, which have long since dried up, and also for the emeralds which were found by local fossickers in the last century. Today, there are still fossickers in the area from time to time, hoping for a major discovery.

Emerald Springs consists almost entirely of the roadhouse, built just after Second World War. It is in a lovely tropical setting, with bougainvillea adding colour to the tropical feel. The old roadhouse, built in the 1930s, stands nearby.

Facilities in Emerald Springs include a bar with counter meals, a shop, takeaway food, souvenirs, and a barbecue area. There are also shower facilities for passing travellers. The roadhouse is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Phone (089) 782 320 for further details.
