Elizabeth Town is located 10 kilometres north of Deloraine on the Bass Highway to Launceston. It is a tiny town with only a very small population, and there are a scattering of buildings on the main road, including a school and a pub. In the distance is a large hill known as 'Christmas Hill'.

Also nearby to Elizabeth Town is the property known as 'Dunorlan', acquired as a land grant by Captain William Moriarty from Dunorlan in Ireland, in 1829. In the late 1840s the property was purchased by Henry Reed, who also had a holding of land in nearby Chudleigh.

Reed immediately realised the value of the land, mainly due to its proximity to the commercial centre of Launceston, and set about dividing it into smaller properties. Some of the farms were sold, and others were leased by Reed to men he had brought out from England to work in his many business ventures.

A tempting attraction in the town is the Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm which welcomes visitors, and encourages them to wander among the rows of fruit and select succulent raspberries. The Farm is open daily from December through to May.
