from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Eagle on the Hill was a stop over point for travellers on their way to and from Adelaide and Melbourne, which dates back to the early 1850s. The old hotel was completed destroyed by fire in 1983, and the stone eagle is the only remnant of the hotel. Even so, the spot remains a landmark for bushwalkers in the area.
