Dysart lies midway between Kempton and Bagdad on the Lake Highway.

Dysart is believed to have been named for Dysart House, built in nearby Kempton for William Henry Ellis. The town sits on top of a hill known as Constitution Hill, and the main feature of the town is the Baptist Chapel - now the community hall - which was built in 1863.
