from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

It was the development of a graded track from Curtin Springs to Uluru (Ayers Rock) that marked the beginnings of increased visitors to the rock in 1948. Previously there had been no road or track beyond Curtin Springs, which lies 80 kilometres east of the rock on the Lasseter Highway.

The 'town' (station) was originally founded in 1943, and was named for the then Prime Minister, John Curtin. In 1956 the current owners, the Severins, took over the property, and continue to manage it today. Curtin Springs is a working cattle station, providing a haven to passing travellers. The Homestead, built in the 1950s, is still used by the owners, and they invite passers by in for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The station is approximately 4200 square kilometres in size, and within its boundaries lies Mt Conner, tours of which are available from the station. Tours of the property are also available to interested visitors.

Curtin Springs also has a roadhouse, which includes a general store, a bar, takeaway food, and souvenirs for sale. Basic mechanical services are also offered.
