from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Cape Crawford is 110 kilometres south west of Borroloola and is the gateway to the Gulf region. Only 12 kilometres out of Cape Crawford are Bessie Springs at the MacArthur River Station. There is a refreshing waterhole here as well as a great fern colony. Permission from the homestead is required before visiting the springs.

The impressive chasms of the Bukalara Rock Formations are some 60 kilometres away and because of the remoteness of the area it is advised that you use the services of a guide.

Cape Crawford has a roadhouse named Heartbreak Hotel - there is much speculation as to how it got its name, but the more popular opinion is that it was named because it was heartbreaking work building in the middle of nowhere. But then, with a name like Cape Crawford for a place miles from the sea, anything is possible !
