from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Campania is located 7 kilometres north of Richmond in the southern region of Tasmania. The town is an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding natural and historic sites such as Richmond, Hobart and the Coal River Gorge Nature Reserve. Not far from Campania and on the way to Richmond there are numerous historic buildings including Carrington, Laburnum Park and Churchill.

Much of Campania was part of an estate of that same name which was divided up in 1914 as soldier settlements. On Estate Road, the original back part of Campania House was built in the 1820s by a man called G.W. Gunning - these days it offers overnight accommodation.

The flour mill was constructed in the 1880s, and over a century later the Flour Mill Bicentennial Park was officially opened. The local artist Stephen Walker was commissioned to create a beautiful bronze sculpture for the park . (His works can also be seen in the Steppes Sculptures).

On your way to Colebrook you will see quite a few old buildings dotted along the landscape. Amongst their numbers is an old farmhouse which was at one time the Halfway House Hotel.
