The $22.5 million new Casino Canberra opened its doors at midnight on July 29th, 1994. The new Casino is located in Glebe Park next to the Capital Parkroyal Hotel.

After twenty months in the temporary facilities of the National Convention Centre, Casino Canberra's purpose built permanent home houses 50 gaming tables (an additional ten tables to the previous location). The new facilities include a 'Poker Lounge', 'Keno Lounge', two Bars and Restaurants and several new exciting card games enhancing the old favourites of Blackjack, American Roulette, Baccarat, Sic Bo, Money Wheel, Pai Gow and Triple Blackjack.

The new Poker Lounge offers 'Manila, 'Five' and 'Seven Card Stud' poker. The introduction of the Poker Lounge was due to public demand and is proving to be very popular with both local and interstate markets.

The gaming facilities span over two levels with the main gaming area being on the ground floor. Club Prive is located on level two and is reserved for VIP Players.

The Casino's interior and furnishings are rich in colour and reminiscent of European style casinos, yet the atmosphere is sociable, inviting and relaxed, suiting the Australian market.

With the opening came additional employment opportunities. Casino Canberra has increased its staff to over 500, making it one of the largest private sector employers in the ACT and surrounding regions.

Casino Canberra has a strong commitment to the local area and this is evident in the revenue that has been paid and raised since the launch of the interim Casino. Besides the initial $19m licence fee, the Casino has paid more than $18 million in gaming revenue last year.

The new Casino Canberra continues to play an important role in Canberra's tourism which generates revenue for the ACT and overflows to retailers, hotels, taxis, coach companies and many more local businesses.

Casino Canberra Limited is a solely owned company of Casinos Austria International (CAI). Since the mid 1960s, CAI has built a strong international casino business and now operates 98 successful casinos worldwide with a further 28 new projects currently being developed. The company has more than 4,800 employees in 13 countries.

Casino Canberra was a first in Australia for CAI. It opened its interim location in the National Convention Centre, Canberra on 14th November 1992. In June 1993 CAI won the bid to operate Christmas Island Resort Casino which opened in November 1993. CAI has been named as the new operator and part owner of the Cairns Casino which is part of the Reef Casino Consortium, due to open in 1996.
