Telecom Tower is apart of the World Federation of Great Towers which includes famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building. The Tower, opened in 1980, provides communication facilities for Canberra, and has also become one of the area's prime tourist attractions.

The Tower rises 195 metres above the summit of Black Mountain and provides 360 degree views of Canberra and the surrounding countryside. Stunning views of the city can be seen from two open viewing platforms or from an enclosed viewing gallery, either by day or at night. The Tower also has an exhibition gallery, theatrette, revolving restaurant and cafe. The exhibition gallery features a Making Connections exhibition which details the history of telecommunications in Australia from its genesis in the 1800s to technologies of the 21st century.
