From the War Memorial, the grand avenue of Anzac Parade stretches down to the Lake named after Canberra's architect Walter Burley Griffin. Created in 1964, this man-made park-fringed Lake is Canberra's centre piece. The Lake has 35km of foreshore, with a bicycle track and footpath surrounding it. The Lake features a Captain Cook Memorial Water Jet, and a Carillon donated by the British government, and is popular with sailors, windsurfers and other water sport enthusiasts.
