The Heritage Village captures Australia at the turn of the century and includes eating houses, taverns, galleries, rides and amusements set in parkland recreating Australia's early days.
The Mining Village is a restoration of a goldmining township and is 20 minutes north of the city. Canberra's gold rush began in 1894, and Bywong Village provides guided tours of active gold mines, gold panning and working machinery, as a well as the tents, humpies and various buildings that have been restored to depict the hardships that prevailed in the mining community.
Federation Square takes visitors back in time to early tea houses, gift stores and galleries displaying period pieces. The Ginninderra Village has some of the oldest buildings in the region and includes speciality shops and garden restaurants. As well as historic buildings, the Village has a Wine Press where visitors have the opportunity to sample a selection of fine wines from the Canberra region, and enjoy the sights and smells of this wonderful little store.
A venue not to be missed is Cockington Green, a meticulously crafted miniature of some of the most famous sites in Great Britain including Stonehenge, Braemar Castle and traditional village areas. The buildings are incredibly detailed and are set within superbly manicured gardens. Picnic, BBQ and playground areas, as well as a restaurant, provide added enjoyment for visitors.
