Bushy Park, Tasmania : Main Article

from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Bushy Park is located in the Derwent Valley and is the only area left in Tasmania that still has a thriving hop-growing industry. The landscape is dominated by rows of poplars, which act as windbreaks around the hop fields. The historic oast houses employed to dry the hops remain, and provide an engaging mix of past and present alongside the more modern kilns, built in the 1960s.

Hawthorn Lodge was originally constructed in 1869 and has been restored to its original glory when it was the residence of the Shoobridge family, a pioneering hop-growing family in Bushy Park. It offers historic accommodation for visitors to the area. A local vineyard near National Park offers free tastings, tours and an excellent barbecue and picnic area for visitors.
