Bruce Rock, Western Australia : Main Article
Bruce Rock is situated north west of Narembeen and 50 kilometres from Merredin in the south west region of WA.
The town is named after a Sandalwood cutter, John Rufus Bruce.
Historic Attractions
The Bruce Rock Museum is housed in the restored Bank of New South Wales building and contains a variety of displays including a restored one roomed school and a mud brick settlers cottage, a typical sight in the early settlement days of the area. Opposite the building is a museum with extensive displays of antique machinery.
The Old Railway Dam was built during the construction of the rail line to provide water for the steam trains passing through the area.
The original site for John Bruce's depot is 2 kilometres east of the present day township. Visitors can view the original stone wells sunk by Bruce and enjoy a picnic on the site.
Other Attractions
The smallest bank in Australia can be found in Bruce Rock. The bank is located in nearby Shackleton and measures just 3 metres by 4 metres.
Bruce Rock main street is home to an Arts and Crafts Centre which specialises in local artists works in anything from sculpture, painting and weaving to pottery, preserves and toys.
