from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

The town of Brighton adjoins its neighbour Pontville, 27 kilometres north of Hobart, and was established in 1826 primarily as a military staging post on the Hobart-Launceston road. Today the Brighton Army Camp is the chief military post in Tasmania.

The nearby Bororong Park Wildlife Centre off the Briggs road is home to a wide variety of native Tasmanian animals including Tasmanian Devils, Wombats, free-ranging Kangaroos and other species all living in realistic natural surroundings.

The Bush Tucker Shed on site provides sumptuous Australian food, barbecue lunches and Billy Tea and Damper. Plenty of historic hotel/motel accommodation is offered to visitors wishing to experience the charm of this historic little hamlet.
