Another significant contemporary bridge is the Bowen Bridge, which crosses the Derwent River near Risdon Cove, a short distance from the first European settlement in Tasmania. It provides an alternate crossing to the Tasman Bridge and is located upstream of major shipping activities. It has eight major spans of 109 metres, with two shorter end spans giving an overall length of 976 metres. Construction started in 1980, with the official opening in February 1984.

  • Deepest pier foundation - 48 metres below water level
