Bookham village is 34 kms south on the Hume Highway from Yass and was named after the wife of the Governor of Van Diemens Land, Lady Jane Franklin after she travelled from Melbourne to Sydney in 1839. Two fine churches constructed from locally quarried granite are a feature of the village.

Childowla is 20 kilometres from Bookham and has challenging white water rapids for experienced canoeists.
