Binalong is famous for its Cobb and Co Inn, the Black Swan. Banjo Paterson lived at Illalong, a few kilometres away. He and his father are buried in the Binalong Cemetery.
Binalong is also famous for the "gentleman" bushranger Johnny Gilbert, known for the gallantry he displayed to his lady victims. Despite his gallantry, Gilbert was a killer and legend tells that he was betrayed by his own grandfather who told police of his hiding place on the outskirts of town. Visitors can see Gilbert's grave and the site where he was shot.
The Binalong Motor Museum has an extensive display of vintage cars, most of which are in full working order. Visitors to the Southern Cross Glass Studio can watch Peter Minson create intricate glassware which has given him the reputation of being one of Australia's most sought after artists. Every third Sunday of the month, an antiques auction is held at the Mechanic's Institute in Binalong. The nearby Lavender Farm allows visitors to browse through 12 varieties of lavender ideal for specimen plants or large hedges.
