from 'OZpedia the Free Guide'

Bellerive is located on the east shore of the Derwent River, facing the city of Hobart in Tasmania's south. A suburb of Hobart city, the two main focal points of this town are the Derwent River and Mount Wellington. Bellerive was one of the first early settlements on the east shore, and a ferry service was formerly the only means of commuting to Hobart.

Enjoy a game of golf on the scenic course at nearby Rosny. A selection of historic farm buildings adjacent to the golf course retain the rustic atmosphere of when they were part of Hobart's earliest rural settlement. Bellerive Bluff is the site of The Battery, one of the original forts established in 1885 to protect Hobart against an expected Russian invasion during the later part of that century. The guns have never been fired in anger, and the site commands excellent views of the Derwent River and Mount Wellington.
